Along with the return of 100 Thieves to Call of Duty esports, launching the LA Thieves franchise, Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez obtaining the OpTic brand once again, was up there as the best moments in the most recent offseason. For those that may not know, Hector founded OpTic Gaming and along with others, grew it to be the biggest name not only in Call of Duty but also as one of the biggest esports brands in the world. Enter OpTic Chicago. Before the launch of the Call of Duty League, Hector parted ways from OpTic, selling his shares in the company after failing to buy the brand back, by no fault of his. This led to him joining NRG Esports and launching the Chicago Huntsmen. After Season 1 concluded, there had long been speculation that Hector was going to buy back OpTic, and at the same time, Nadeshot was interested in bringing 100 Thieves back into the esports. Things correlated well, as Hector bought the OpTic Gaming brand back, took the branding and then sold the Los Angeles spot that OpTic previously held, to Nadeshot and 100 Thieves. This led to the creation of LA Thieves, who will debut this season and OpTic Chicago who will be continuing the forward steps made by the Huntsmen in the inaugural season.

OpTic Chicago Roster

The OpTic Chicago franchise is quite possibly in the best place coming into the 2nd season of the Call of Duty (CDL). Despite finishing 3rd at the Call of Duty Championship, falling short to Atlanta FaZe and Dallas Empire, the format changes, roster moves and rebranding all act as a positive sign heading into the new season. In regards to the roster, only one change was made, and that was Prestinni departing from the team, purely because of the format change from five in a team to four. Outside of that, the OpTic Chicago roster has four players, that spent the entire season together on Chicago Huntsmen last year:

  • Brandon “Dashy” Otell (Player)
  • Dylan “Envoy” Hannon (Player)
  • Matthew “FormaL” Piper (Player)
  • Seth “Scump” Abner (Player)
  • Jordan “Genera” General (Substitue)
  • Troy “Sender” Michales (Head coach & substitute)

Regardless if you’re a long time Call of Duty esports viewer, or you’re new to the space, these players will likely ring a bell, along with the infamous OpTic branding.

OpTic Chicago Past Achievements

Despite being rebranded, this doesn’t create a clean slate for the franchise. It’s simply a rebrand and the history of the Chicago franchise will continue from their time as Chicago Huntsmen. As mentioned, last season Chicago finished 3rd in the Championship, and they also finished 3rd in the regular-season standings. On top of this the Chicago Huntsmen won two Home Series events; Week 2 in London and Week 8 in Seattle. New York Subliners caused an upset when they prevented Chicago from winning their third in New York during Week 11.
